Doodhpathri – The Valley of Milk
Season: Both SUMMER & WINTER (best May–October; in winter, the valley transforms into a snow paradise though access may be difficult)
Overview:
At 2,730 meters (8,957 ft) above sea level in Budgam district, about 42 km (1.5–2 hrs) from Srinagar, Doodhpathri is an alpine meadow known for its lush pastures, pine forests, and the gushing Shaliganga River. Its name—Valley of Milk—comes from a local legend that the water flowing here looks milky white when it strikes the rocks. Doodhpathri remains an offbeat, serene escape compared to the more crowded tourist spots of Kashmir.
How to Reach:
By Air: Srinagar International Airport (42 km / 1.5 hrs).
By Road: Well connected via Budgam, Khan Sahib, and Srinagar.
By Rail: Jammu Tawi (270 km) is the nearest major railhead.
